Who am I?
I’m Peter Hornsby, a researcher and designer with 20 years’ experience solving problems in complex fields including fintech, defence, and telecoms. Since 2020 I’ve been working in the legal arena, redesigning contracts and other legal documents for organisations from startups to multinationals, and supporting legal tech companies with UX.
The scientific foundation of my design practice is rooted in my human factors degree, and my PhD in computer science, researching no-code / low-code systems, where I published papers and spoke at international conferences.
I’m an educator, having taught design, developed training materials, mentored designers, and most recently, developed courses on information architecture and user research as cofounder of the Legal Design Sandbox. For 10 years I wrote a column for UXmatters about design inspirations from software engineering, as well as being a guest expert. As well as editing legal documents as part of redesign work, I have edited novels and academic articles.
I’m active on LinkedIn, sharing thoughts on design, and funny stuff that often involves Terry Pratchett, Monty Python, and Blackadder.
